Auckland Council’s head office accommodation project was run over an 11 month programme fitting out both Bledisloe House (7 stories) and 135 Albert Street (21 stories). Vidak supplied all furniture items to Albert Street and worked with a mixture of new and re-purposed items in Bledisloe House. This was along with business as usual activity like regional libraries and other building demand.
For this project, it was key that all products withstand Auckland Council’s requirements for top quality ergonomic furniture with particular design aesthetics and environmental credentials (e.g. ECNZ licenced product) due to their target of a 6 Star Green Building Refurbishment rating.
Vidak was engaged at the end of 2013 to work with the Council and their consultants to finalise design and create a portfolio of furniture that best suited their needs.
A key challenge of the Council’s project was the scale and multiple levels/buildings which added a layer of complexity to project planning of deliverables and resource management. What started out as a single building with 21 floors ended up with the addition of the second building of another 7 that was added into the same programme demands. This was managed very well through a collaborative effort between the dedicated Vidak project team and Council’s project team.
In addition, Vidak put a lot of work into providing a product portfolio with a high level of environmental consideration so that Council could achieve their target of a 6 Star Green Building Refurbishment rating for the building.
