Following the demolition of the original NZDF Headquarters in Wellington after the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake, a new location was selected for Defence House. Previously named the Bowen State Building, the 11-storey building, located across from the Beehive, was part of a massive $203M campus renovation alongside the Charles Ferguson Building.
Vidak worked with NZDF and Planet Design to deliver a fitout which not only met the NZDF’s strict security requirements, but also provided a modern office space to “inspire the Defence agencies in their vital work to uphold peace and security… and thereby contributing to the future wellbeing” of all New Zealanders.
Key to the success of this project was the design of a Aerial workstation customised to the needs of the NZDF.
Soft seating options including Escape and Hady lounge chairs paired with Focus tables provide variety and choice in how and where staff work to boost collaboration and productivity.
Thinking Quietly bar leaners create relaxed open areas near to kitchen amenities to encourage team interaction over lunch.
Dynamic Vecos lockers with smart technology are placed strategically on each floor for staff storage needs.
