Massey University - Sir Neil Waters Extension

Now more than a quarter of a century old, Massey University’s Albany Campus is updating its furniture and technology offerings for its students, staff and faculty. The new Sir Neil Waters Extension is a benchmark project with the first fully designed activity-based working environment on campus.

Massey teamed with Vidak to develop the open plan work spaces for administrative staff and faculty of the College of Health on the third floor. The main goal was to improve collaboration, connection and creativity in an environment that enables the users to work in different ways depending on the task at hand.

Solutions include Aerial desks which allow users effortless transition sitting to standing to help combat the negative effects of sedentary work. Users are seated in various pod configurations. Desks are close enough to encourage connection, but, with the addition of Divide screens, offer enough visual and acoustic privacy for individuals to remain productive. The integrated cable management means desks will remain tidy.

Vecos Lockers, a dynamic, locker management system makes it easy for staff to book and unlock personal lockers via smartphone. Ergonomic task chairs with adjustable heights support health, comfort and productivity. Faculty offices feature single Aerial desks and comfortable Bloom Chairs to encourage informal meetings and help students feel welcome within the space.
